How it all began

  • 1885Everything was born in 1885

It all stems from Manuelina, enterprising nineteenth-century woman who, from her humble tavern on the outskirts of Recco, gradually succeeds in winning over the "gentlemen" of the surrounding area, the Genoa-well-to-do and the personalities who frequented the Riviera di Levante in the Belle Epoque. Over the years frequented by such greats as Montale, D'Annunzio and Einstein: the Focaccia di Recco revolution begins. She wins her customers with availability: her customers have the curious habit of waking her up at any hour of the day or night to be served her focaccia, and she never denies herself.

Manuelina was able to transfer her passion and knowledge to her daughter Victoria and granddaughtersEmanuelaand Maria Rosa. Together they will carry on the tavern for many years.
  • 1958Gianni Carbone and the new location

Gianni Carbone joined the family by marrying Maria Rosa and took the reins of the business, beginning the evolution of the osteria into a restaurant that in 1961 would win the Mortaio d'Argento at the Festival Gastronomico di Nervi by presenting Pansoti alla Salsa di Noci
  • 1960The new headquarters

In 1960 Manuelina moved to its present location, which was larger and better suited to accommodate more customers and became the typical restaurant beloved by many foodies and mentioned by Umberto Eco in Foucault's Pendulum.
  • 1983The insight of the Focacceria.

Focacceria Manuelina is born, the first fast food restaurant of typical Genoese cuisine with focaccia with cheese at its center just a few steps from the restaurant
  • 2014Beyond the boundaries of Recco

Focacceria Manuelina lands in Milan's Piazza Duomo: the first Manuelina outlet outside the main Recco location arrives. Further experiences and outlets will follow, touching the cities of Florence, Rome, Bergamo, Genoa and Santa Margherita Ligure

The Carbone family

Today it is we, Manuelina's great-grandchildren, who carry on the tradition. Over the years we have managed to maintain her passion, dedication and respect for the quality of the cuisine and raw materials to the point where “Manuelina” has become a true brand that encompasses the renowned Restaurant, a 4-star Taste Hotel, a prestigious catering and of course our Focacceria Bistro.
